Although I did not do anything special on Memorial Day this year, I was able to make it out to Fort Snelling National Cemetery over that weekend with my grandma. I have always liked going to the Ft. Snelling Cemetery. My Grandpa Daniels is buried there, so I don’t just go there aimlessly. However, I do actually really enjoy being there. There is a peaceful feeling there on that wide open piece of land. There are two airports located near the cemetery, as well as a very busy highway system. Even though there are airplanes that fly directly over the cemetery, the place is remarkably quiet…or perhaps it is the silent reverence of the thousands of veterans buried there.
Anyhow, during special holidays dedicated to the remembrance of the men and women who have served our country, American flags fly throughout the streets of the cemetery. It is the place I feel most patriotic. It is the place that I feel most grateful to be a citizen of the United States of America.
