Every once in a while, to my husband's delight and horror (yeah, delight AND horror), we'll listen to MY music.
I start off light, with songs from two albums that my parents bought for me and my sister when we were kids. Some of the songs are sort of familiar to Song Min, so he goes along with it.
"Music Machine" and "Bullfrogs and Butterflies"
He's even game when I break out songs from the soundtrack "Sound of Music"...because let's face it, no one sings like Julie Andrews (my neighbors will agree with this statement, as I'm not quite as easy to listen to while belting out "The Lonely Goatherd").
If the dancing hasn't already started...it kicks in now. The thing is, I don't dance in front of people. I am well aware that I look stiff and awkward when I dance, so I just don't do it (in public). At home, however, I will bust out the moves.
Typically, my dancing is to songs that really aren't "dance songs". My true dancing...the "behind closed doors" dancing, usually starts out with some harmless skipping, maybe some clapping and I'll even throw in some snapping - you know, to get warmed up. If I really get going (perhaps a sugar high or something), I will pull out the big guns and start pulling out moves from the Rick's College square dancing club...yes, I said square dancing club. I should go ahead and note that our square wasn't an official square in the club. Thinking back, I don't believe we were really a welcome square by any of the other "Circle K" members. Hmmm...jerks!
The heavy hitters - with these songs, I lose Song Min. He gets this funny look on his face. In all honesty, it's a cross between hysterical laughing, embarrassment, and horror. It's really the only time that I actually believe that Song Min thinks to himself "why did I marry this one?"
These are the songs that really get the party started. These are the songs that make up "My Ultimate Party Mix":
"Sneaky Snake Goes Dancing"
Neil Diamond's "Forever in Blue Jeans" and "Cracklin Rosie"
"Elvira" by the Oakridge Boys
Perhaps a little Johnny Cash singing "Ring of Fire"
And the music of the lyrical genius... Mr. Kenny Rogers singing hits like "The Gambler" and one of my absolute favorites..."Coward of the County"
(pre-plastic surgery...why Kenny? WHY?!?!)
You may be thinking to yourself, "doesn't sound like a party mix to me".
All I have to say is...that's why it's MY party!
