I see you...nope, that's me again!

I don't keep a lot of "extras" at my desk. I don't have millions of photos or fun figurines or anything. I have a lamp and a mirror...both functional items. My mirror sits next to my computer screen, placed strategically so that I can see if anyone is standing in my doorway.

During my first year of employment here, my neck got a lot of exercise. Whenever anyone walked by my doorway, I would whip my head around to see who it was. Since I'm along a busy hallway...this occurred, oh about every ten seconds.

I have since placed a small mirror next to my computer monitor. Now, I can see anyone behind me AND avoid looking like a paranoid freak.

The problem is that I also have an issue with mirrors. I can't stop looking at myself when they are around. I don't know if it is vanity, curiosity (because maybe my face looks different RIGHT NOW), or a nervous tick. I peek into the stupid mirror all of the time!

Sometimes I catch myself before looking and make a face. Sometimes I just glance into it and see a blank look on my face. And then there are the times when I see the tip of my shoulder move in the mirror and I look because of the movement (I'm apparently like a cat...you should call me Whiskers!).

Anyhow, I don't know what's up with me...and the me in the mirror, but I'm beginning to wonder if I should just put away the mirror, slap on the crown, and take my place as Miss Paranoia USA again.

Rachel you crack me up! I would be really distracted by the mirror too. Although creating a rear view mirror for your office was a cool idea! What do your co-workers think about the mirror? Do they see the genius behind it (or in it - as the case may be) or do they just think of you as a modern Vanity Smurf. I don't know where that comparison came from but don't we all miss that cartoon show?

My coworker Mark likes to stop and stand behind me in the hall and stare in the mirror until I look back at him. The rest of them just think it's creepy when they walk by and see me making eye contact in the mirror. Luckily, they all like me around here.

You are amazing Rachel. I love reading your blogs. I knew you had a thing with mirrors but I didn't know it was so serious. LOL
This one reminds me of a book that Kristin loved when she was small. "Look Out He Is Behind You"
Take care of your self.
